Complaints:

The Internal Affairs Section receives, processes and investigates complaints made against members of the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office. To ensure the public trust and maintain the office’s integrity, the Internal Affairs Section conducts immediate and objective investigations of all complaints. Frequently asked questions and answers:

Q. How do I file a complaint against an employee of the Sheriff’s Office?

A. Complaints against a Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office employee will be accepted at all office facilities, from any source, regardless of the location of the alleged occurrence. The office facilities are 505 Travis Street, 7th floor; 501 Texas Street, room 101; Keithville Substation, 3268 Stagecoach Road; North Market Substation, 4910 North Market. Complaints may also be taken by any deputy.

Q. What happens to my complaint?

A. The complaint is documented on a Citizens Complaint Form and forwarded to the Internal Affairs Section. When received, the complaint is reviewed by the Section Commander and then assigned for investigation. Statements are taken from the complainant, all witnesses and the accused employee. Upon completion, the case is reviewed and a disposition is made by the Command Staff.

Q. How long does it take the Internal Affairs Section to complete an investigation?

A. The average case may take several weeks, but more complex complaints could take much longer.

Q. Will I be notified of the findings?

A. Yes. Both the complainant and the employee are notified when the investigation is complete and the results thereof. If your allegation is sustained, you will be informed that corrective measures will be administered to the involved deputy.

Q. Do other agencies investigate officer misconduct?

A. Yes. The State Attorney’s Office, the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the U.S. Attorney’s Office may be involved in the investigation.

We are proud of the high quality of service we provide to the citizens of Caddo Parish. To maintain this well-deserved reputation, we must constantly strive for excellence.

It is essential that all allegations of police misconduct are thoroughly and objectively investigated to assure the public that official police misconduct will not be tolerated and, at the same time, provide a vehicle whereby officers unjustly accused can be vindicated.
