The president of the Herndon Magnet Parent-Teacher-Student Association was arrested on Monday for stealing money from the group, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

In August 2016, an auditor with the Caddo Parish School Board filed a theft report with the Caddo Sheriff’s Office after a periodic audit revealed missing money from the school’s PTSA for the 2015-2016 school year.

During an investigation by Sheriff’s Detective Doug Smith, the PTSA president, Vera Dunfey, was contacted and interviewed. Smith said Dunfey was primarily responsible for handling the PTSA funds and that her personal bank records reflected $4,230 in association money was deposited into her account over the 2015-2016 school year.

Dunfey, 47, of Shreveport, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for theft.
