A Shreveport man was arrested for cashing fraudulent checks that cost one business over $18,000, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
James Maxie is accused of cashing two counterfeit checks on January 2 at a local convenience store where he was a regular customer. The checks totaled $3,239. About two weeks later, he returned to the store and cashed one counterfeit check and one stolen, forged check for a total of $14,773.
After an investigation, Maxie, 32, of the 3600 block of Bellaire Avenue, was arrested by Caddo Sheriff’s Detective Mike King and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for forgery and two counts of monetary instrument abuse.
